Privacy Policy — AI Chat Exporter

AI Chat Exporter ("the extension") exports your own AI chat conversations to files on your device. Its privacy story is short because everything happens locally in your browser.

What the extension accesses

To create an export, the extension reads the content of the conversation you are viewing on ChatGPT (chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com), Claude (claude.ai), or Gemini (gemini.google.com). For full-history ("export all") on ChatGPT and Claude, it requests your conversation list and content from those sites' own interfaces using the login session already present in your browser.

When "Include images" is enabled (the default), the extension also downloads the pictures that appear in the conversation being exported so they can be embedded in your file. These images are hosted by the AI sites themselves on their content delivery domains (*.oaiusercontent.com for ChatGPT; *.googleusercontent.com, lh3.google.com, and *.ggpht.com for Gemini; claude.ai for Claude), the same requests the page already makes to display them to you. The images go directly into your exported file and nowhere else. You can turn this off in the Download menu's Export settings.

What it does with it

The conversation content is converted, entirely within your browser, into the format you choose (PDF, Markdown, plain text, or image) and downloaded to your computer.

What it does NOT do

• It does not send your conversations, or any other data, to the developer or any third party.
• It uses no external or remote servers. There is no backend.
• It collects no analytics, telemetry, or tracking of any kind.
• It does not store your conversations anywhere beyond the files you choose to download.
• It does not sell or transfer any user data, and does not use data for any purpose other than the export you requested.

Permissions

The extension requests access to the four AI chat sites listed above (to read the conversation you are exporting and generate the download) and to the image-hosting domains those sites use (*.oaiusercontent.com, *.googleusercontent.com, lh3.google.com, *.ggpht.com) solely to fetch a conversation's pictures for embedding in your export. The storage permission holds only your export preferences (layout, paper size, text size, include-images), never conversation content. It executes no remotely-hosted code (all libraries are bundled in the extension package).
